A Mountain of Anime News Arrived Over the Holidays
The Yuletide season provide a wealth of pursuits much better than catching up on the latest news: discovering surprises, feasting on delicious food, and using patience techniques to avoid yelling at loved ones. I hope you managed to accomplish all these things and more. However, the entertainment world never sleeps, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. A slew of thrilling announcements surfaced during the holidays, and should you didn't see any, here is a compilation of the biggest bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Season 3 Will Continue (In 2027)
Perhaps the most shocking revelation, the much-discussed controversial season that was the third season of One-Punch Man failed to stop more episodes. Season 3 will come back with a second cour in 2027—a date so remote they might as well have labeled it season 4. More surprisingly, the studio J.C. Staff will still be at the helm. At least this time, director Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the beginning, which could be taken as a hopeful indicator. But, the promotional image for the second cour is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This suggests that, by now, they are probably trolling the fans.
Ruri Dragon Will Be the First Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has built a standing for being an top-tier animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the superb artistry of its output but for the good working conditions of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had never worked on an anime based on a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, possibly the most famous magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved a huge following when it launched in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a lengthy break due to the author's health issues. When it returned with a more relaxed pace, the series showed it hadn't lost the fans' affection and goodwill, and now the community is ecstatic about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Has a Sequel Currently in Production
Kingdom is the best-selling, epic Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only just received an English translation, but the anime has been running for years, and its sixth season was another stellar entry. As it happens that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as currently being made, and it will very likely premiere in 2026.
Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
One more studio famous for the artistic merit of its work, Science Saru has delivered hit shows of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the real historical figure of Fatima, an prominent woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and captivating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my must-watch list.
Tougen Anki Is Set to Continue With a Season Two
Immediately following the conclusion of its twenty-fourth episode, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be securing a sequel. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete premiere date has not been disclosed yet.
